Luanti (formerly Minetest)

Luanti is an open source voxel game engine that allows players to run different "games".

To play, you'll need a copy of Luanti. Installers for Windows, Linux and Mac can be downloaded from Luanti's download's page. Linux users can also often find Luanti in their distro's repos, but bear in mind that these often end up being somewhat outdated.

Games and mods are all run serverside, so no need to worry about downloading those (unless you want to play singleplayer).

Playing on Glowbox

Luanti has a built in server list that can be accessed from the "Join Game" tab from the main menu of the game, and Glowbox should be publically advertised. If it isn't immediately visible, the list is searchable. You can also directly connect to glowbox.cc on port 30000.

Once you've found the server in the list, you'll need to register a username. Unlike Minecraft, Luanti keeps track of user's on a per-server basis.

Rules

  • All rules point to Wheaton's law.
  • Keep conversation worksafe -- no slurs, avoid sexual topics, limit profanity.
  • No offensive builds -- e.g. no swastikas, curse words, etc.
  • No unsolicited spam.
  • No hacks.

Map

The server has an online map that can be accessed here: SERVER MAP.

Land Protection

The server also uses the Protector Redo mod for land protection and some limited tweaks to PvP.

  • You cannot PvP on someone's protected land, except at night.
  • Land protection is created by using protection blocks.
    • To craft a protector block, put a gold ingot in the middle of 8 smooth stone. When this is placed, it will protect an area within a certain radius.
    • Lockable doors and chests can also be made by placing a door or chest in a crafting grid with a gold ingot.
